Charlotte Metro Federal Credit Union is committed to protecting the privacy of our members.

In general, you can visit us on the World Wide Web without disclosing to us who you are or revealing any information about yourself. There are several areas however, that will collect certain information about you and we want you to know how we handle that information.

If you visit our website, Charlotte Metro Federal Credit Union collects and stores information on the domain you use to access our website, the Internet address of the site from which you linked directly to our site, and the date and time of your visit. This information is used to measure the number of visitors to the various pages on our site to better serve our membership.

If you send an e-mail, Charlotte Metro Federal Credit Union collects and stores personally-identifying information in order to process your e-mail, form or application. This information is not sold to any third parties. Due to the volume of e-mail activity, these messages are deleted after they are answered or completed.

If you visit a secure site, such as Online Banking, you will be asked for personal identification numbers which will give you access to the member-only section of our website. This information enables Charlotte Metro Federal Credit Union to regulate entry to the member-only portions of our website and to measure member usage. Any identifying information gathered is not sold to third parties.

If you link to another site from any of our pages, you are leaving our site pages, and we cannot be held responsible for any information that may be gathered at a linked site. We make every effort however, to ensure that all linked sites follow privacy policies similar to ours, offering you maximum security and privacy.

Joint Accounts

According to North Carolina state law and the Universal Commercial Code (UCC), a joint owner on any deposit account (Checking, Savings, Share Certificate, Money Market) may, at anytime, withdraw ALL the funds from the account or close the account without the other owner's knowledge or permission. A joint owner may NOT "block" the other joint owner's access by removing the name from the account or blocking the other joint owner's ATM card.

To remove a joint owner from an account the account must be closed out and then may be re-opened under a single name or with another joint owner. Additional fees may be involved for removing or adding joint owners. Please check your current Rates and Schedules of Fees for more information.

NSF Checking Accounts

According to both NC State law and the UCC, a personal check is considered a written contract between the payer and the payee (the person to whom you write the check). Writing a check to a person or business when there are not enough funds in your account to cover the check is against the law. It is considered a "broken" contract between you and the payee, and the payee may take legal steps against you to recoup their losses. In addition to the legal steps, the payee may try a number of times to "clear" your check through your account causing more than one NSF fee to be charged to your account. The credit union cannot prevent the payee from attempting to clear the check several times.

Ultimately, it is the member's responsibility to know the actual available balance in their account. Audio and Online Banking will give you both the Balance and the Available Balance on your account. Playing "the float" on deposited payroll checks, when checks will clear, or on Checkcard or ATM card purchases (which are either "held" immediately or deducted immediately) is a risky game and could cost you more money and a bad account history in the long run.

Stop Payment on Checks

You can place a stop payment on any one check or a series of checks through Cricket Audio or Cricket Online . The hold will be for 14 days from the date you placed the stop payment. In order to extend this stop payment to a full 6 months, you will receive a letter that must be signed and MUST be received by Charlotte Metro no later than the last business day PRIOR to the 14th day (If received later, you may incur additional fees). You may cancel your request in writing. All stop payments placed by Charlotte Metro Federal Credit Union are subject to the disclosures and regulations in your Member Service Agreements Booklet.
