What to Do if You
Suspect Debit, ATM or Credit Card Fraud
Discovering you have become a victim of card fraud can be frightening, frustrating and inconvenient. A criminal has gained access to your debit, ATM or credit card number, and in some cases, PIN, and has made unauthorized purchases and/or withdrawn money from your account. Your
information can be compromised many different ways including hidden skimmers on card reading machines and hackers accessing data from unsecure retailer computers.
Fortunately, there are some steps you can take to detect card fraud. The easiest way is to enroll in online banking, if you haven't already. There you can check your balance and recent transactions 24/7. You can also set up alerts to be sent to you via email or text. If you don't have access to online banking,
consider setting up phone access to your account. Just as with online banking, you can use audio banking to keep regular tabs on your account.
If you learn your debit, ATM or credit card has been compromised, contact Charlotte Metro immediately. If the fraud occurs on a weekend or holiday, you can still place a block on the card yourself through online or audio banking.
To block a card online:
- login to online banking at www.cmcu.org
- Choose the "Self Service" tab from the menu at the top of the page
- Click on "Block Card" and select the card(s) you want to block
- If you wish to order a new card at that time, select that option as well*
To block a card through audio banking:
- Call 704.375.0183 or 1.888.633.2628 and press "1"
- Follow the voice instructions to block your card(s)
If fraud does occur on your account, you will need to come into a branch to complete the proper paperwork. Rest assured, you are protected against fraudulent charges to your account.
At Charlotte Metro, your security is our top priority. Unfortunately, there are criminals working very hard to access your personal information. While we take every precaution to protect your data, taking preventative measures of your own will help safeguard your account and lower your odds of becoming a victim of card fraud.
